Churches divide over differing approaches to worship services, church governance, and situations with sinful manipulative people. When people see hypocrisy in the church, which claims to love others but acts selfishly, the contradiction repels unbelievers. God calls believers to unite as one and share His love with others. This kind of unity begins with love, which comes from God (1 John 4:16).
One of the main themes across the letters of 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John is love. The author of these works speaks to the command for believers to love one another. The body of Christ should stand apart from the rest of the world, known by love, characterized by God’s visible love.
